History of the Freddo Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate Bar

History of the Freddo Cadbury Chocolate Bar

What product have I chosen and why?

The product that I have chosen to produce for the adverts for the Tv and radio is the Cadbury Dairy milk Freddo chocolate bar, I have chosen this product because this chocolate bar has been around since the 1930's it is also unique in shape. This product has an element of synergy, it is mixed within Cadbury and a company called Mac Robertsons.

When did Cadbury first launch the product?

The Cadburys Freddo was first launched in 1930 by Harry Melbourne. Harry Melbourne was an employee for Mac Robertsons and in 1967, Mac Roberston's was sold to Cadbury. Which then lead to Freddo's Frog being incorporated into its own product range, the chocolate was originally only sold in Australia, however later on was introduced to other markets.

Who do you think is the audience for the product?

I think the product is targeted towards anyone from the age of 3+ this is because, the chocolate bar is a cartoon chocolate frog, and it has more of a chance to attract a child than an adult. The chocolate is designed in a cartoon frog mould and is made out of pure dairy milk chocolate which can be eaten by anybody above the age of 3+ which have teeth, this bar is a very small bar and can be eaten as a quick snack.

Describe the Packaging:

The Freddo's chocolate bar packaging is a vibrant purple packaging which has the cartoon frog on it, this vibrant purple packaging has a bright green two eyed frog, the packaging also has a bold red label which quotes 'Freddo'. The synergy can be seen through the collaboration of the Mac Roberston's design and Cadbury. The packaging is strong in colour and can easily attract younger audience with the picture of the green frog.

An Example of an old advertisement campaign:

Analyse the Advert.

Description of Packaging:

The package of the Freddos frog is a very simple, basic and bland packaging. This advert was made in 1986, which means this advert is very old compared to the adverts nowadays. This also means that the packaging shown in this advert would have also been old, the packaging shown in the advert is very bland, the colours used in the packaging are simple colours such as blue, white, green and red. Each packaging represents a different flavour and example of this would be the green packaging representing the flavour peppermint, the current trending freddos are not flavoured and are just made out of pure dairy milk chocolate.

Slogan:

The slogan quotes "Freddo flavours are fun". This slogan has been quoted because in the advert made in 1986 the freddos are flavoured and each packaging has a different colour which represents a different flavour, hence why the slogan was quoted ' Freddo flavours are fun', this allows the audience to know that the product has more to offer than just a simple frog shaped chocolate.

Luxury? On the go? Everyday?

This Freddos chocolate bar can be an everyday on the go bar, this is because the chocolate bar is small in size and can be eaten as a snack or a quick energy boost throughout the day. The flavours are simple and have a lot to offer in taste, this chocolate bar can attract more customers due to the multiple flavours.

Potential Target Audience?

In my opinion the Freddos chocolate bar is for everyone and can be eaten as a snack or an energy boost. This chocolate is a simple elegant chocolate it is not too luxurious. The chocolate bar is aimed towards children, this is because the packaging of the chocolate bar contains a bright green cartoon frog, and this frog would attract children as it is funny and childish. The chocolate bar has a sweet dairy milk taste and is not filled with anything inside but a smooth dairy milk consistency just as the rest of the chocolate bar.

What ideas might you use to keep the brand consistency?

To keep up the brand consistency, I will use vibrant colours and attractive posters or prizes to be able to win at the end of my advert. This is because my chocolate targets children as their audience and this will be a way more children want to buy the chocolate if they see that they win something when purchasing the chocolate bar. I will be changing the complete advert as it is an old advert and it needs an updated change with more colour and more appealing scenery.
